Explaining my research to a curious individual

The What

The Why

  • Faced with a preliminary concept from my lab supervisor to explore differences between foreign-born Asians and US-born Asian Americans, I took on the challenge of extracting reliable insights from a complex, 14-quarter dataset fraught with labeling issues and inconsistencies.

The Who

  • Conducted the research independently, with oversight from a postdoctoral researcher at the lab.

The How

  • Initiated the project with a thorough literature review, discovering a significant gap in empirical studies within social psychology on this topic.
  • Systematically cleaned and organized archival data, analyzing over 4,500 data points from Introductory to Psychology students at UW using advanced statistical methods, including meta-analysis, in Excel and SPSS.
  • Designed and presented a detailed poster at the UW 2019 Symposium, which can be viewed here.

The Impact

  • Fostered a platform for dialogue at the symposium, encouraging students with similar backgrounds to share their experiences.
  • My work catalyzed the development of a new research initiative for my supervisor at his current academic position, significantly influencing his teaching and research trajectory.
